One of the things I love so much about my years-long study of personalities is that it keeps me on the lookout for people’s gifts. I’ve been thinking a lot about those gifts lately – tis the season, I guess.
So, as this year is ending, I wanted to say thank you to some of you, specifically. And since I have way more than nine people to thank, I’m going to use some Enneagram language to do it. And I’ll go in order to make it easy.
You will see yourself on this list – or at least that’s my intention.
Here we go!
For those of you who feel like you have to carry the weight of something big or something overwhelming or something uncomfortable, Thank You for picking up the slack. I wish you some stillness this season and a place to rest from your burdens – the ones the rest of us can’t see or hear.
For those of you who give exactly the right thing at exactly the right time, Thank You for caring enough to notice. I wish you some reciprocity this season and even a tiny bit of the appreciation, devotion, connection and affection your heart is hoping for.
For those of you who are so good at planning the activities that make this season special, Thank You for being organized, flexible, tenacious, and having the energy we all rely on. I wish you some time to spend exactly as you please – in high adventure or low.
For those of you who feel like this season is still missing something you desperately want to find, Thank You for showing up anyway. The rest of us don’t know what that’s like but we know it’s real. I wish you at least one part of your holidays that can be exactly as you’ve dreamed it.
For those of you who have to gear up energy for all this season’s hustle and bustle, Thank You for what you’re choosing to share with those closest to you. We know it costs you. I wish you some lengthy periods of prerogative where you can reset and recharge without anyone’s expectations.
For those of you who have been dealing with an extra active mind this time of year and have to work extra hard to slow it down, Thank You for thinking of the things the rest of us forget. I wish you some moments of silence where you can breathe it all in. Repeat after me “It will all be well.”
For those of you who have looked forward to this time of year but secretly are already planning your next getaway, Thank You for staying present with us right here and right now. No one adds to our fun like you do. I wish you the freedom to be you – whether that means being on stage or far from it.
For those of you who think big and act big, Thank You for using your gut to say and do what some of us wish we can. At this season, you step in and take care of so many – financially, especially. I wish you a return on investment in the form of love and loyalty. May you feel some ease amidst some of your unspoken losses.
For those of you who do so much to bring comfort and peace to those in your inner circle and around it, Thank You for being someone we turn to – again and again. I wish you some bone-deep assurance that you matter to us, especially at this time of year.
I can’t wait to hear if my wishes for you come true. Really.
Merry Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
