I love to eat great food. Love it.
And because of this, people in my life would often ask me during my single years for recommendations on where to go out to eat.
They also asked about movies and TV shows and donuts and a few other things. Not because I have particularly great style or taste (I don’t), but because I paid attention to restaurants and TV shows and movies and donuts.
People asked me so often, in fact, that years and years ago – back in the olden days of blogging – I decided to blog about it.
It was a very simple little blog hosted on blogspot (remember that?) called Sally’s Favorites. And you can probably still access it. I should check.
So, today, in the spirit of Sally’s Favorites, I’m going to give you 5 things that are my current favorites and things I use almost EVERY SINGLE DAY.
- Owala FreeSip water bottles. The. Best. Bottle. For. Water. Period. I first heard about these from something Kendra Adachi said and I trust her. These bottles – and the ability to gulp and SIP water without a gross straw – have changed the way I drink water. Only later did I find out the company is located in my very own city. Trust me on this one.
- Uniball Signo DX .38 pens in Blue/Black. These are the pens I have used to take notes on every session with every single client. They are my signature pen. They write quick and even and thin. (Three things I am not! Haha.) They are easy to hold. They have a perfect color. The lid stays put while I’m writing. I have used them for my work for years and won’t use anything else if I can help it. They’re that good.
- DayOne journaling. I have always been a journal-er of sorts. Sometimes daily, sometimes sporadically. I had a period of a few years where I couldn’t figure out if I wanted to continue journaling on paper or if I wanted to try digital. Nothing seemed to be jelling for me. DayOne fixed the drama in my head about it. It allows me to write with an e-pencil on my ipad or to type my entries on my phone or computer. It lets me use a template I created for days when I want to write quick. I can add pictures or attachments if I want. My thoughts about this particular format have helped me get to a space of enjoying the practice of journaling again. I am grateful.
- Orson Gygi Popcorn and a silicone popcorn popper. I love popcorn. SO MUCH. And just 2 weeks ago my sister just introduced me to Mushroom Popcorn (which does not have anything to do with mushrooms but DOES have to do with the large size of the popped kernels!). I can put a scoop in my silicon popper with whatever amount of butter or oil or salt or flavoring I want and have the BEST popcorn – and then throw the popper in the dishwasher! What a beautiful world we live in!
- Arcona Cranberry Toner. Yes, it’s for you men, too. Yes, it sounds weird. And yes, it’s expensive – so it’s a good thing Darren doesn’t read this blog! 😉 But it is the only thing I can put on my face after washing it and before putting moisturizer on it that doesn’t irritate it and that I can use around my eyes. I love it so much. In looking up the link today, I saw that it is on sale for Mother’s Day. Yea, us!
I kept this pretty general but I do have a LOT of favorite things lately – favorite baking supplies, favorite Enneagram books, favorite children’s books, favorite Vegas restaurants, favorite food at DisneyLand, favorite songs, and yes, favorite donuts.
The things I listed above have just been in my life in the last few years.
My favorite things continue to evolve, and I bet yours do, too.
In an interview with Julie Beck, Tom Vanderbilt said, “There’s no silver bullet theory for explaining anyone’s taste. It’s always a mixture of exposure, of culture, of a person’s personality. And none of these are particularly static or fixed. The nice thing about tastes is that they are subject to change. We can kind of always be reinventing them and reinventing ourselves a little bit.”
Reinventing them and reinventing ourselves a little bit. I love that.
I can’t wait to hear about your favorite things. Seriously! I want to know! And if you need help with reinventing yours, or reinventing YOU, I’d love to get you started. Right after I eat some more mushroom popcorn.
